One of the many chain restaurants that exist in this city. You stand in line to order at the counter, then grab a table. I decided on the French dip sandwich. Roast beef, grilled onions, horse radish, cheese and au jus. Actually pretty decent, although I would have liked a little more meat in my sandwich. The caesar salad was standard.

Just another hidden Filipino restaurant in SSF! Very homey inside. We got pork sisig (sizzling goodness), beef sinigang (super tender meat and awesome sourness), pancit (can pass on this, not exceptional), and garlic rice (so much garlic!). I loved the sinigang and sisig. Will be back soon!

After my first round of golf in years, we decided to grab some burgers! Super crowded as always, but I still got my 2x2, animal style! Not sure how I used to do 4x4 or 5x5, but these bad boys are still delicious!

Trying out a new place! I don’t remember the name of the roll I got, but it had pretty fresh tuna was pretty good tasting. Their poke salad had a Korean flair to it, and the agedashi tofu was silky smooth!

Dine About Town! I drive past this place nearly every day, so I picked this place for DAT2014! I got my meal started with a Burratta Mozzarella, sweet and sour tomato jam, and garlic crostino. Whoa! This had so much great flavor! There was some smokiness, sweetness, sour, citrus, crunchy, and smooth. Great dish! My main course was the Pan Seared Rock Cod that came with a squid ink rosotto and fennel. Perfectly executed fish and just slightly undercooked, but flavorful risotto. I decided to end my meal with the Lemon Panna Cotta that had some balsamic roasted strawberries and pistachios. Nice citrus and great sweetness from the strawberries. Impressive.

Where: Skywalker Ranch Cafeteria (San Francisco)

This is the first time I’ve seen them serve the tostada/tortilla bowl here. It looked bigger than it actually was, so i was left hungry still, but the fajita style dish did have some good flavor. Not legit Mexican, but it’ll do.

Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in SF. This is the first time I got the steak and shrimp burrito. Tender and flavorful shrimp and freshly grilled steak! I usually get their gigantic quesadillas, so this was a good change of pace.

Where: J & J Wedding (Livermore)

When: 6/7/2014

Great wedding, awesome people, and fancy dishes! Seared scallop with fingerling potatoes, wild mushroom pancetta ragout on a spoon of garlic buerre blanc. Next was the heirloom tomato salad with buffalo mozz and avocado. I opted for the smoked pork chop that came with a cheddar polenta. The dessert bar was a homage to donut day!

Where: Chipotle Cultivate Festival (San Francisco)

When: 6/7/2014

Got a chicken and pork meatball bowl that had a nice green papaya slaw and curry. It really ended up being a bowl of curry. Tasted ok, but hardly something I couldn’t make at home. I had a dulce de leche cookie, which was quite good. Definitely different. The most amazing thing I had was definitely the Mint Watermelon popsicle. Wow, $4 well worth it! Super refreshing…and it was a cold day!

Where: Shabu House (San Francisco)

When: 6/6/2014

Who: Mom, Dad, Trina, Matt

Small restaurant and popular. A bit of a disappointment, but partly because of the organization. Or lack of. Their broth is really good and the meat quality overall was good. But two separate orders of the beef actually tasted different and the color was very different. They gave us two huge plates of beef to start, which allows you to get a little sick of one type of meat before getting more. Their lamb was a bit more gamey than other shabu places, but I couldn’t complain about getting my fix! Standard veggies and good sesame sauce for dipping. I’d probably try other places before going back to Shabu House.

Where: Auntie April’s (San Francisco)

When: 6/6/2014

Been on my list of places to try for years! Glad I get my Fridays to try whatever I want! Right in the heart of HP! They’re super friendly here and the food is amazing! Definitely lived up to the hype! I got 2 pieces of dark meat chicken and a waffle. The chicken is beautifully fried and the waffle was just crispy enough. They add a nice layer of butter before bringing it to your table. Served up with the Louisiana hot sauce (probably laced with cocaine or something addictive) and maple syrup. It is the perfect combination of flavors and textures! I also got a side of collard greens. These were more buttery than I’m used to. That means it was delicious!! I can’t wait to go back. Every first Sunday they do a dinner event. Next month is a $30 meal with music (always a different type of music) and you get something like 4 courses and a drink!

Tried to get a somewhat healthier meal here. Not as dry as I thought it’d be either. I’m just glad they tend to undersalt food here, so I can add more if I need to and not feel like I’m dehydrated.

Lamb burger with cheese and a corn slaw. Can’t expect too gourmet, but still a fair lamb burger. Side of curly fries for sure!

AYCE Shabu! Great service, perfect portions (not too much meat brought at once), good quality, and nice looking waitresses! haha, the broth here is pretty good, and I really like that they have the split pot so you can have 2 types. I enjoyed ending the meal with some green tea ice cream and a sugar cone! I’ll have to come back soon because it’s the best I’ve had in SF so far.

Tomato beef (Filipino style) and sweet/savory braised pork! I forget what these are actually called, but I think both were packed with flavor! We shared the fried plantains to end the meal.
